Harmonic content in bending magnet

Post by Spainconoa »

Hello,

we would like to simulate a bending magnet (dipole) including the potential harmonics that are expected due to manufacturing and alignment imperfections (typically b3 (sextupole) and b5 (decapoles)). This option is available for quadrupoles, but not for the bend command.

I have been looking in the TraceWin manual, but I don’t see a clear command or keyword to directly introduce a bending magnet field with additional multipole components. Is there a way to define a dipole field map that includes such harmonics?

Obviously an option would be to generate an external field map with the multipoles and import it but we would like to analyse the potential impact before starting the electromagnetic design.

Best regards
Conchi

Dear Conchi,

No, that's not currently in the catalog. But why not cut the dipole in half and put thin multipolar lenses between the 2?

Regards,

Didier
