Dear TraceWin Community,
I’m completely new to TraceWin and have several beginner-level questions. I would greatly appreciate any clarifications:
1. How can I extract beam information (e.g., RMS size, twiss parameter, etc.) at any arbitrary z-position along the beamline, not just at the exit of defined elements?
2.What kind of initial beam distribution does TraceWin assume when defining a beam? For example, is it Gaussian, Waterbag, or uniform by default?
3. When the menu refers to “multiparticle” simulations, does it mean:
a) a large number of particles of the same species, or
b) a beam composed of different particle species?
4. How does TraceWin calculate the Full Width at Half Maximum (FWHM) from sigma (RMS)? Does it assume a Gaussian distribution (it seems to me FWHM ≈ 3.5*σ, but i think for gaussian its around 2.35*σ)?
5. what is Correct Method for Defining Input Beam Parameters
what i do is I estimated x_rms from beam profile and assumed a value for x’rms. Then I calculated the Twiss parameters (α, β) from these. then, In the main window, I entered the normalized RMS emittance and Then, using the “Twiss parameters” button, I opened the input beam parameters dialog box and entered α and β. The visual preview showed values for xmax and x’max, which matched my initial value.
However, during the run, I noticed the beam envelope starts with ~4σ instead of 1σ so i want to know the initial beam distribution used?
Thank you in advance for your guidance!
